ABOUT CHIVALROUSGENT
The gentleman
is still worth knowing.
ChivalrousGent is a modern reference for good manners, sound judgement and the ordinary habits that make a man good company.
WHY WE EXIST
Character before appearance.
There are things a gentleman ought to know. How to make an introduction, how to behave at another person’s table, when to speak and when to listen. How to apologise properly, keep his word and treat others with consideration even when nobody is watching.
Much of this was once taught at home, passed along through parents, grandparents and everyday example. The world has changed, but the value of those lessons has not. We believe they deserve a place where they can be found, understood and put into practice.
ChivalrousGent is built to serve that purpose. It is a reference to return to, not a diary of fleeting opinions. Our Handbook sits at its centre. Alongside it are thoughtful guides to style, grooming, living, travel and culture. Clothes have their place. Conduct comes first.
THE PRINCIPLES
Good manners are
never out of date.
Consideration
Give people your attention, courtesy and the benefit of good sense.
Integrity
Be dependable. Keep promises and take responsibility for your actions.
Curiosity
Know enough to ask better questions, and be willing to learn what you do not know.
HOW WE PUBLISH
A useful answer, properly considered.
Our guides aim to give readers practical information they can use, with enough background to understand the reason behind the advice. A custom or social convention should be explained in its proper context. A recommendation should be distinguishable from a fact.
We seek accurate, original writing and make corrections when they are needed. Commercial links are identified and do not confer editorial approval. Our standards describe the approach in more detail.
